The World Cup may be in full flow at the moment but at local level it’s that time of the year when all the local clubs hand out their awards. Hexham Football Club are no exception to this and our annual prize giving was held at the Tynedale Function Suite, Hexham Auction Mart.
The club has now over two hundred and fifty playing members from the life blood of the club at the under eight level all the way up to the senior men’s team who play in the Northern Football Alliance, a total of fifteen teams. As you can imagine that is a logistical nightmare trying to get that many players and members of their families all together at the same venue. That task was accepted by club official and under 10 manger Hilary Norton, weeks of planning went into the event where Hilary enlisted members of her family and other club members to ensure the evening was a success.
The event was opened by
retiring club secretary
Doug Robson who welcomed
everyone to the event
and then passed the mike
over to Ivan Jepsom who
did a great job guiding the
audience through the
presentation.
One by one the teams were invited on to the stage to receive their squad trophy and then the individual awards were presented by the team mangers before the audience were given a brief description of their playing season. The young players waited patiently at the left hand side of the stage until it was their turn in the spotlight, this is where Hilary’s daughter Lucy rose to the occasion with the help of team managers she arranged them in the correct order and maintaining total control of the situation. While the event was taking place there was a quiz on all the tables set at a junior level and one for the adults. Also at this time a power point presentation was shown on the big screen in the suite showing an update on the Dukeshouse wood development and various photos of team activities over the season, it certainly created some interest when the players saw themselves on the big screen.
Another vital task was undertaken by Julie Pearson
who organised all the trophies and ensured all the
individual trophies had the correct names inscribed
and all the squads had the correct number of awards.
As the night went on more players and parents turned up for their allocated time and the extra marquee provided by the venue ensured much need space to accommodate everyone. The cafe area which adjoins the function suite was also utilised with more chairs and tables but nobody missed anything as a screen was provided and a live link showing events on the stage.
Neil Brooks had the task of taking the team photos and providing the live link to the cafe and it all went like a dream. As the event was winding down and the prizes given for the quiz winners the Dance mat challenge sprung into action with all the team’s having the chance to prove their footwork was up to scratch and Joe Speed kept the party going. As the curtain came down on another successful event the club now starts looking forward to next season when it all starts again but before then the club would like to thank Hilary and all club officials who put so much effort into the night also Robbie and all his staff at the function suite for a terrific venue. Also thanks to the Wentworth Leisure Centre for use of the dance mat equipment and the Queen Elizabeth High School for allowing us the use of their mobile stage
