The club is so big now it is impossible to find avenue big enough to hold the all the playing members, parents and supporters which always proves a major headache for event organiser Hilary Norton and her team of helpers . With all the logistical associated problems that follow on with an event of this nature quite a few sleepless nights were experienced before deciding that the venue for the 2010-11 annual presentation night would be the main hall at Queen Elizabeth High School. This proved an excellent choice with the evening run in two parts. The mini soccer section with players from under 8 to under 10 were on first at five pm and once these were completed thre was a short break and then the under 11’s to the senior team came to receive their awards a little later.
This year the club had a guest of honour to present the trophies which was local North East soccer legend Bryan Robson. Bryan played a superb part of the evening having a word with every one of all the players asking which position they played and giving them all encouragement. During the evening Brian produced the Football League Golden Boot which he won in 1973 for being the countries leading goal scorer whilst playing in the colours of West Ham United. Afterwards lots of the players were clamouring for autographs and photos of themselves with Bryan and the fabulous trophy and they were all duly obliged. The club would like to thank Bryan for being a fantastic guest of honour and wish him the best of luck in his new position at Sunderland as Chief Scout; perhaps we might be seeing more of him at our matches next season.
During the evening a raffle was taking place and all thre prises were donated by local people and businesses which was a great boost to the club funds and also a bar was set up in the foyer where Stuart and some staff from the Carts Bog Langley ensured everyone was very well catered for.
A lot of work went on to make the day a success with Julie Pearson taking the photos and ordering the trophies, but one of the hardest jobs went to Lucy Norton who had to get the players ready to take their place on the stage and in the correct order. Lucy did a great job but she was helped enormously by the children who were a credit to their parents and they all did exactly what they were asked and everything went smoothly. The continuity of the day was enhanced by Paul Shrimpton who defied an old wives tail that men can not multi task, Paul compared the entire presentation whilst sometimes doubling up as a team manager and keeping an eye on proceedings whilst reading out team achievements from a Power point display running in the background. A complete Man of the match performance (Well done Paul)
All the players received an individual trophy to commemorate there season with the club and some were lucky enough to receive special awards after they excelled in various categories. The teams have had a good season with the highlights being the Championship wins
for the under 16 Whites and under 9’s in there respective leagues. In the cups it was so near so far with the only cup win coming from the under 14 team in the West Division Cup but there was four other sides who made finals but had to be satisfied with runners up spot.
